FULL TIME SCHOOL: A VIBRANT ENVIRONMENT OF LIFE, FAITH AND CULTURE

The program belongs to the presence of Colegio San José de Calasanz, Nazareth Province, Bogotá, Colombia and is developed with the institution´s educational community, the Hunzá District School and the local neighborhood´s community. Its objective is to articulate the learning scenarios (formal, non-formal, informal education and evangelizing project) to offer a comprehensive education, building the full time school program in Colegio San José de Calasanz. For this purpose, the individual characteristics that define each learning scenario are identified, the available resources are effectively integrated to enrich the educational experience in the four learning scenarios and the commitments of the global educational pact are linked within the full time school. By generating a connection with the objectives of the global educational pact, the 10 elements of Calasanctian identity and integrating the four areas we achieve:

  • Open to welcome – option for the poor – human dignity and rights: guarantee the fundamental right to education, serving the population of a poor neighborhood. From formal education with a subsidized tuition cost to families to non-formal education free of charge to students of official schools.
  • Placing the person at the center – focus on children and youth, family integration, training of educators – integral ecology: developing the institutional educational project and the Calasanz for All project, attending and welcoming the school population, their families and educators.
  • Listening to the young generations – accompaniment – peace and citizenship: to guarantee through the spaces of spiritual formation and accompaniment, spaces to listen to children and young people in order to attend to their realities, their current formation needs and interests, based on their gifts and talents.
  • Renew the economy and politics – reform of society – solidarity and development: through the educational goals, collaborative work between institutions and outreach to the community.

The program’s outlines are:

  1. Evangelization project: seeks to strengthen the faith of the educational and local community through sacramental life, retreats, continuous prayer, Eucharistic celebrations, pastoral accompaniment, pastoral classes.
  2. Calasanz Movement: opens church´s doors to the educational and local community, as a space for community encounter with God to all those who feel the call to live the faith with others in building small communities in the stages of MIES, ALACCHI, Youth Movement, Calasanz Adult Movement.
  3. Non-Formal Education: accompanies the integral development of the learning processes of boys and girls of the district schools of the Rincón de Suba, through strategies inspired by the Calasanctian pedagogy, forming in Piety and Letters, from the project “Calasanz For All”.
  4. Formal Education: based on the PIETY AND LETTERS pedagogical model, the school’s educational practice is oriented to develop all the dimensions, potentialities and capacities of the students. Colegio San José de Calasanz offers a quality formal education that seeks to form people of integrity, committed to society and the environment.
  5. Informal Education: aimed at parents, educators and volunteers. The continuous formation of Calasanctian educators seeks to train and permanently update competencies in the pedagogical field, integrating the Piarist tradition, contemporary pedagogical reflection and contributions from other disciplines. Training for parents aims to enrich the understanding of the development of children and young people, strengthen family ties and promote human and spiritual growth. Volunteers are trained so that they can use their skills, abilities, values and attitudes in the field in which they serve, integrating the contributions of the Piarist tradition.
  6. Extracurricular Activities: seeks to encourage habits and skills through sports, artistic, pastoral and academic spaces, promoting exploration, socialization and teamwork. Various dimensions are stimulated through guided discovery, pre-knowledge and continuing education in the disciplines selected by the student, with the support of the family in order to promote personal and community development.

The Full Time School: A Vibrant Environment of Life, Faith and Culture, is configured as an innovative and transformative educational model that goes beyond simple academic instruction. It is a space where values are cultivated, citizen participation is encouraged and the environment is transformed. The articulation between the different lines of action allows the creation of an integral environment that promotes the development of individuals and the strengthening of the social fabric.
