Colegio Cristobal Colon is located in the city of Puerto de Veracruz (Mexico). As a Piarist school, the integral growth of the students in Piedad y Letras is the motivation that drives its educational project. It is a welcoming place where students grow up happy, free and respected. It is the place where they develop their potential and build their future.

For this reason, it is very important to strengthen the links between the school and the family. The educators of the school collaborate in a co-responsible way in the integral education of their children. The education of the family is relevant when it is a testimony of life and has moral authority before its children and the school. Parents are the first educators of their children in moral principles and the first promoters of their integral development.

The educational project of Cristobal Colon School works in harmony with families. In this project, the two points of view are united in a single horizon: the construction of a better world through dialogue, understanding and mutual help.

In the year 2000, the School for Parents Project was created in the secondary and high school sections, as a strategy for the co-responsible link between the school and the families of our students.

The project consists of creating formative-reflective spaces for parents regarding their educational role in order to strengthen and improve the quality of family relationships through talks, reflection exercises and experiences in a framework of active listening and mutual accompaniment.

In 2011 the project was extended to the other sections of the school, preschool and elementary school.

The topics covered in the project include institutional identity, pedagogical, psychological, socio-emotional, communication, accompaniment, sexuality, health, values, education in the faith, prevention and child safety, among others. The choice of topics responds to the ages served in the sections.

The most enriching part is the exchange of experiences among parents and the interpersonal relationships that are built. Communication between parents and teachers and tutors of the groups has been promoted to share information that helps in the accompaniment of the students. The role of parents and teachers is discerned in order to clarify mutual responsibilities, agree on strategies for school and behavioral strengthening, as well as in cases that require more attention.

For the development of these spaces we have the support of specialists, both internal and external, in each of the topics.

The School for Parents continues to bear fruit; it is a project that is seen as a space of hope, a space that revitalizes and encourages the life of the families that make up the great Colon Family.
