10 objectives of the “Glocal” Educational Pact

Through the voice of Pope Leo XIV and the Dicastery for Culture and Education, the Church today invites all educational communities to enter a new stage of the Global Educational Pact. This vision unfolds under the image of a constellation: a sky of stars that is not decorative, but guiding. The ten proposed objectives constitute a true compass for contemporary Catholic education, a living decalogue that articulates a universal horizon and local responsibility.
At the heart of this approach lies a fundamental conviction: Catholic education forms the whole person. It embraces the spiritual, intellectual, emotional, social and physical dimensions, and rejects reductive oppositions between theory and practice, science and humanism, technique and conscience. Placing the person at the centre means accompanying each person in the discovery of the meaning of life, their inalienable dignity and their responsibility towards others.
Education is not just the transmission of knowledge: it is the learning of virtues, the formation of citizens capable of serving and believers capable of bearing witness.
Catholic schools are described as living ecosystems where faith, culture and life intertwine. They do not replace the family, the primary place of education, but collaborate with it in a demanding and co-responsible alliance. Catholic education is presented as a choreography: a collective movement that places the human being at the centre, generates reciprocity, opens up social responsibility and promotes an anthropology based on respect, discernment and personalised accompaniment.
In a world marked by social divisions, environmental crises and new vulnerabilities, Catholic education is called upon to unite social justice and environmental justice, to promote sober and sustainable lifestyles, and to train artisans of peace. Peace is not the absence of conflict: it is a gentle, unarmed and disarming force, built through dialogue, justice and reconciliation.
Pope Leo XIV relaunches the Global Educational Pact by adding three decisive emphases: care for the inner life, indispensable to any depth of education; the construction of a more human digital world, where technology remains at the service of dignity; and commitment to active and daily peace. He calls on educators not to be content with preserving, but to relaunch, imagine and draw up new maps of hope.
The OIEC, together with the USG, the UISG and the educational pact team, is fully committed to this dynamic. The attached booklet is neither a single model nor a normative framework: it is intended to be a source of inspiration, a springboard for pedagogical and pastoral creativity.
Each school, each culture and each context is invited to adapt and enrich these proposals according to its own genius. The OIEC also encourages collaboration between institutions, continents and educational actors, Catholic or otherwise, in order to strengthen a truly global constellation in the service of fraternity.
Educating is an act of hope. It means believing in each person’s ability to grow, to connect with others and to transform the world. It means building alliances, weaving peace and contributing, with responsibility and passion, to shaping the future of education.
