The head of FP of the Escola Pia de Catalunya, Jordi Trunyó, and representatives of the institution have traveled to Seville to attend the 10th annual congress of the Association FP Empresa. It has been an opportunity to reflect and be a meeting point for all parties involved in the work of career guidance, one of the fundamental challenges we have today.
One of the topics on the table was that vocational training centers should be a reference for people’s guidance, qualification, and requalification throughout their lives. Mechanisms must be established to facilitate this professional guidance for children and young people, families, workers, the unemployed, and companies.
During the congress, we had the opportunity to share experiences with other VET professionals, visit some Seville centers, and listen to inspiring presentations.
Clara Sanz, General Secretary of Vocational Training of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, presented the general framework of VET orientation. She referred to the five key competencies for employability.
- Communication and teamwork
- Reasoning and problem-solving
- Reliability and self-discipline
- Continuous learning and curiosity
- Proactivity
He pointed out that guidance and vocational training are two areas that share the same objective: they aim to train more employable people. Guidance is not only for children and young people but also guidance designed for adult workers. This is also the challenge of vocational guidance. Guidance should help provide information to assist decision-making; no one chooses what they do not know.
For his part, Jorge Arevalo, Deputy Minister of Vocational Training of the Basque Government, spoke about the challenges in the vision of the future of VET. There will be a transformation of jobs, and preparing people for this transformation is necessary. The fifth industrial revolution overlaps the fourth: humans and machines collaborate and interact. VET must try to prepare for what is to come. In VET, we are transforming a system that does not improve the previous one; it replaces it. Flexible and modular vocational training is taking shape.
VET centers need different learning spaces:
- High-performance digital spaces
- Interactive digital spaces
- Immersive digital spaces
- Intelligent digital spaces
We could also hear the life experience of Curro Rodríguez, the current CEO of the LY company group. In his presentation “Learn from mistakes, grow with success,” he explained how he has learned from his failures as an entrepreneur and how he has transformed it. The importance of having goals and striving to achieve them. He has now created a foundation, “Water and Life,” to give back to society part of the profits he now makes.
Finally, the students also had a voice in this congress, participating in a round table where they could explain their orientation process and the difficulties some still encountered in accessing vocational training. The challenge of guidance is and will be fundamental to ensuring an excellent vocational training system throughout their lives.
